Asclera, also known as Polidocanol, is an injectable medicine used in a procedure called Sclerotherapy. This medication works by damaging the cells that line your vessels, which leads to your own immune system clearing this damage and replacing the area with new tissue. Depending on the amount of veins needing injection, sessions typically last between 15-45 minutes. Multiple sessions may be indicated, and usually occur 2-4 weeks apart.

Asclera is approved for veins that have a diameter of 3mm or less. After receiving the injections, it is recommended to wear compression stocking or wrapped bandages and walk for approximately 20 minutes. Depending on the size of the veins injected, wearing compressions should be done for 3-7 days after treatment. Certain factors to keep in mind to avoid after treatment include being on a long flight, sitting in a hot sauna or bath, sunbathing, and heavy exercise.
